For the first time in 10+ years....

Post by Gemini8026 »

I actually sat down and played an E-drum kit and didnt tweak.

I sat and played. My hi-hat worked good. I had full control and predictable opening/closing values. My 3 way ride triggered good. My toms sounded natural with no machine gunning. My snare played dynamic and sounded as real as I have got from an E-drum setup.

Ive gone through 4 or 5 kits. I have owned a fair amount of various pads, and I knew from early on I had zero interest in any of the onboard sounds on the Roland modules. I have never been impressed at any level by the onboard stuff. So I was always tweaking Superior. I sold off all my gear and just used a Roland SPD to do basic beats in Superior

I have never once been remotely happy with Hi-hat performance.

Then along came this review a few months ago of the Edrumin 4 on 65 drums youtube. I was intrigued and saw I could tweak the high-hat, a lot more then on the Roland modules that I had given up on. "Hey, this works pretty good".

Then Rob announced the 10 port unit. I started scouring local ads for any kit pieces. I got lucky on a few kits and started putting things together. I ordered various hi hat components as well to try out the VH-10, the KT-10, the Goedrum controller, etc.

Long story short, I got everything assembled up, tweaked up, and I am impressed and happy with the way its playing. I'm actually PLAYING!

Quick summary :

-4 toms. PD-85's. the top toms and the "floor" toms are wired in dual mono so that the 4 drums only take up 2 ports.
-CY12r/c. Wired 3 way for bell/edge/bow. Works great.
-PD-120. Stereo input on the snare using positional sensing
-KD-10 / KD-8 Wired in dual mono. Ill likely get another matching KD-10 if I found one used for a good price.
CY5 / CY8 / PD8 for cymbals. The PD-8 is also an X-hat on the bow, and a cymbal on the edge.

High Hat - Went from a FD-9 to a VH-10 to a CY-5 with a Goedrum controller. This works BEST for me as I have complete control over the open and close. On the VH-10 IU dont like how my foot can change position after a hard strike. I spent a lot of time trying this out and it works great. I have a piece of rubber mouse pad on the Goedrum controller to get me that "tight" sound by pushing a little harder. I also have a visual indication of how open my hi hat is. I have full control, and there is NO going back. It's the best hi hat solution I have ever come across!

I bought a little wire box that I attached to my stand where I can hide my unit and excess cables. I made my own cables and realised that I am not great at soldering so there have been a few shorts here and there!

Im happy. Im glad to see Rob is active in tweaking and making the most of this product.

Edrumin PROS - Awesome unit, Does everything I want it to do, and allows a tweaker like me the ability to try different things in going for the best triggering setup I can build/design

CONS - Rob is a one man show I assume. We need to clone him. Stay healthy and productive friend!

Anyhow. Pretty happy with the way my project has turned out after years of failed attempts. I hope the project continues on! Pictures attached. Feel free to ask any questions!

as far as future upgrades go. Im good but I wouldnt mind changing the 12rc for the 14 or 15 inch unit. Its gets pretty tight with the 3 zones, but it does work good!

Awesome. I hear you. Never played this much before.

Just sit down now and practice.

Kinda miss the tweaking....

Even more amazing is I update every new beta release, spend a few minute checking things, look at new features and then back to drumming. I think the hi-hat triggering as you would expect is the centerpiece of the great experience drumming with an eDRUMin (Snare articulations and reliability is close second).

All of the above, but what I like best is how eDRUMin enables me to play with full dynamics. With proper calibration I can play both whisper soft and crazy loud. That just wouldn’t have been possible on my ekit 13 years ago. Of course, great software like SD3 is crucial, but I was never able to use that to its full potential with my old Roland module.
Miscellaneous Roland triggers. ED-10 + ED-4. MacBook Pro (2015), 16G RAM, Big Sur. Superior Drummer 3. Logic Pro.

I just received my eDrumin 10 2 days ago. I am getting into it today and setting up my kit. I'm way too excited ( for an adult   )
Your story of never being happy with your e-drum kit resonates huge with me, I hope I have the same experience.
