Hi All,

I’m about to pull the trigger on an eDRUMin module, but I still haven’t figured out how many inputs I need, and whether to buy the 4 or 10 input module. I’m buying it as I want positional sensing on my snare and my TD11 doesn’t support it.

My set up is:

Jobeky Kick
Jobeky snare
Jobeky Tom 1
Jobeky Tom 2
VH11 Hi hat
2 x CY-12C
CY-13R

I’m a bit confused about where the hi hat plugs in on the smaller unit. Does the unit take 4 inputs at the front (drums/cymbals) and the hi hat plugs in the back specifically?

I understand I can use TRS splitters but when plugging in two drums/cymbals I’m not clear on whether things like the 3 zone ride would work for all zones if it shared an input with something else. The snare I understand has to use an input all on its own so that the positional sensing will work properly?

I’m pretty sure all my Jobeky drums are dual sensor (except kick). If I use splitters would that stop the rim sensor working for those drums?

I recommend the ED10 for that setup.

If you bought a ED4 you’d have to get into splitting all the inputs and hoping the edge and bell sense would work well for everything. And while it probably would work, one ED10 would surely give you many more options articulation wise, easier setup and room for expanding.

Two ED4s is another option but for a few bucks more you get the nice, single piece ED10 and two extra inputs.

If you have the budget... get the ED10. You won’t regret it.

The hi-hat controller always goes in the back inputs. The hi-hat cymbals plug into the front like any other pad.

What are you triggering... VST? Module sounds?

You have 7 stereo kit pieces and a mono kick. While you could hook all that up with splitters, you would lose some functionality:
-No edge / chocking on cymbals
-No rimshot on the snare or toms

The hihat cymbal plugs into the front, and the controller plugs in the back.

What do you plan to trigger sounds on?

If you wanted to ditch your module, then I would have to say ED10 is the way to go. It's also going to work a bit better for positional sensing simply because it has a beefier processor and can sample the inputs a little faster. But there's nothing stopping you from using an ED4 and your TD11 at the same time, depending on what you're using to make your sounds.

One other advantage for the ED10... the ED10 has two controller inputs. So one can be used for the hi-hat controller and the other can be used for bank switching (or whatever your heart desires).

I use Superior Drummer 3. Based on your answers I'll go with the 10 input unit in that case.
