Rob - you wrote about the 'edge sense' feature in the vdrum forum:
I prefer the word magic. It's actually a form of positional sensing that works extremely well with mesh pads and even some rubber pads. Using just the head sensor, the eDRUMin can determine if the impact was on the head of the pad or the rim by analyzing the waveform. It only needs about 1ms to do this, so by the time the peak has arrived, it already knows where you've hit the pad. So yeah, 2 zones per piezo.
I'm currently sourcing my triggers and wonder if I should get dual zone or just single zone triggers for my toms and use the edge sense feature?
I plan to use a splitter for toms and kick.
UFO charges extra for their dual zone trigger and it adds up after 3-4 toms.
Dual or single zone trigger for toms
Re: Dual or single zone trigger for toms
Be aware that edge sense can give you back the rim with a single piezo trigger but you won’t have the second piezo needed to get a rim shot. With a two piezo, dual zone trigger you’ll get head, rim and rim shot. If having a rim shot on a tom doesn’t matter to you then try the single piezo/edge sense.
Please! Someone correct if I’m wrong on that.

Re: Dual or single zone trigger for toms
If you split your toms, then you are going from a stereo input to dual mono, so, only one piezo per tom.

Thanks for the info. Hmm, curious how many folks want/use the rim shot for toms?
I would need to add another (3rd) unit just for this.

Please keep in mind that Edge Sense doesn't work with all pads. What time pad were you looking to buy?

Re: Dual or single zone trigger for toms
I'm building an A2E kit and about to order triggers with either the single zone UFO cones or dual zone Jobeky crossbars to use with SD3.
Re: Dual or single zone trigger for toms
That would be a personal call IMHO. If you’re main goal is mostly covering songs and your style of music doesn’t have a lot of tom rimshots then probably no big loss. I don’t recall a lot of rock music I listen to having them.OftheSeven wrote:Thanks for the info. Hmm, curious how many folks want/use the rim shot for toms?

But if you are into exploring your creative side and/or you’re going for the closest acoustic experience you can get they will be helpful. For example, SD3 has some rimshot articulations that sound pretty cool, especially on the 8” and 10” toms. Working them into a one shot roll or just to shake up a groove can be pretty fun. I have found though that has the tom gets bigger it gets harder to distinguish the rimshot from a center hit.
I am using mine. But then I’m not big into covers. I’m more the explore my creative side kind of guy.
Re: Dual or single zone trigger for toms
I use Jobeky Triggers (AI Bar Trigger and the side mounted ones) and they both work well für dual zone Input (on the Snare with Head, Cross Stick, Rimshot) and Mono Input (on the Toms, Head and Rim).OftheSeven wrote:I'm building an A2E kit and about to order triggers with either the single zone UFO cones or dual zone Jobeky crossbars to use with SD3.
The internal side mounted triggers by Jobeky are amazing and work exceptionally well with the edrumin (and are affordable). On par with Roland and ATV Pads, in my experience.

Thanks - I just placed my order for the A/I bar triggers and a side mount - all dual input to future proof my setup.vandroiy wrote:I use Jobeky Triggers (AI Bar Trigger and the side mounted ones) and they both work well für dual zone Input (on the Snare with Head, Cross Stick, Rimshot) and Mono Input (on the Toms, Head and Rim).OftheSeven wrote:I'm building an A2E kit and about to order triggers with either the single zone UFO cones or dual zone Jobeky crossbars to use with SD3.

I hope you didn’t order more than you needed. With that statement it sounds like you ordered an AI trigger and a side mount for each drum.OftheSeven wrote:Thanks - I just placed my order for the A/I bar triggers and a side mount - all dual input to future proof my setup.
