edrumin with Abbey Road Drummer (Kontakt 5)

Hello,

Here is my set up, using 1 edrumin:

Input 1: Kick mesh head with RT30K trigger + Snare mesh head with Tdrum side trigger. I use this splitter: https://www.thomann.de/intl/pro_snake_tpy_2003_jbb.htm

Input 2: HiHat Roland VH-10, with the control output to the back of the edrumin. I made the 2 stereo cables cause they were not sold with the VH-10
Input 3: Dual MONO input: Millenium stereo crash 14" + Floor tom mesh head side piezo. With the same splitter as input 1.
Input 4: Yamaha PCY155 ride.

The edrumin firmware is the newest avaiable.
I reassign manually all notes to match the notes in the software Abbey Road drummer (Native Instrument, Kontakt 5). A bit laborious, a preset would be appreciated :-)
In stand alone mode, cause via Cubase is it unplayable due to the latency :-(

Issues:

- Input 3: the stereo crash doesn't arrive in the edrumin software. I suspect the splitter, how can I modify this splitter?
- Input 2: the hihat control and trigger works really poorly with Abbey Road drummer. Is it normal?

What am I doing wrong? Does anybody found the way to use kontakt drums in a great playable way using triggers/cymbals and edrumin?

I've spend lots of time to try several settings, and it is far from conclusive at the moment.

Thanks in advance for every idea to improve my set up ! :-)

If the splitter works fine for Input 1, but not input 3, it likely points to a firmware bug. For input 3, you are using Dual Mono mode, what are the pad types for the two pads?

I've never used Kontakt with eDRUMin, but I suspect it doesn't like the hihat position being sent as a CC. I'll need to investigate.

As for a preset, I'll look into that. I'll need a document of some sort to know the proper mappings. Do you have this information?

Lastly in regards to latency, you need to lower your buffer samples in Cubase. How low you can go depends on:
1. Whether or not you have a proper audio interface.
2. How loaded up your project is with plugins? If your CPU is working really hard processing loads of realtime effects, it's not going to like operating with low audio buffers. Generally you want to be tracking drum early on in a project before it gets loaded up with automation and effects. Freezing tracks will help a lot and make sure you don't have any non-linear plugins loaded. Many plugins used in mastering, for example, will force a minimum amount of latency on the system.

Regards,
Rob

Hello Rob,

Thanks for your answers.

On input 3, I have a stereo cymbal TRS jack + a simple tom piezo TS Jack.

For the mapping of abbey road drummer, you can find it in the manuals. Here is the 60s drummer, page 24 and 25: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source= ... _8YQSOW-c0

Hi,

Any idea about the way to make the Roland hihat VH-10 working well ?

I fixed the latency issue in Cubase by pressing the "compensation delay" button, on top left of the sequencer window.

Thanks in advance

Sorry, I've been busy.

In regards to input 3 (the cymbal and the tom). I want to try to reproduce your issue. In the control application, I assume you have set the the input to DualMono. The input will be split into two, a left and right. Which pad is on the left and which is on the right? Furthermore, what PadType setting are you using for each of those pads?

As for the hihat, I really have no idea what you mean when you say "the hihat control and trigger works really poorly with Abbey Road." Can you give some more details?

Hi,

Input 3: I selected Dual MONO input:

- Left: Millenium stereo crash 14". I selected "Dual zone cymbal".
- Right: Floor tom mesh head side piezo. I selected "Mesh side piezo".

I don't know if you can see the pictures at the end of my first post?

I tested something: I rewired the left female Jack of the splitter, by switching from tip to ring. It changed nothing.

Other little suggestion for a futur update of your soft, it would be nice to have the possibility to rename the pads (Tom, floor tom, woodblock, crash, ride...).

Can't reproduce the issue. I suspect you using an old version of the firmware because a similar issue was fixed a couple of weeks ago. What version of the firmware are you using? You can see it by clicking on the firmware update icon in the bottom left hand corner of the UI.

The firmware is up to date (1.0.4.3).
I plugged the crash + floor tom in the 4th input of the edrumin... and it works.

Thank you for this video, it helps a lot !
It is still not perfect because when I close the Hihat pedal, it sounds like a "medium opened sound", not really closed hihat. Closed sounds, and tight closed sounds exist in Abbey Road but I don't find the way to trigger it.
