Input 1 not holding it's settings

Hello,

I'm having an issue with the first input changing settings without touching anything. When I first plug the cymbal in it has a compatibility warning explanation point. But when I click on the input the explanation mark goes away. This happens regardless of what cymbal I attach. After the explanation mark goes away I configure using the 2-zone cymbal preset and activating bell-sense for 3 zones. It works. But after a few moments the cymbal only triggers EDGE when I hit the bow. Choke is also triggered when I hit the bow with a little force. To fix I'll reset the input and and reassign to 2-zone trigger and it will work again. But it always reverts back to only triggering EDGE after less than a minute.

My setup:
3 Roland CY13R's
1 Roland CY15R
1 Roland FD-9 Pedal

This only happens with input 1. It seems like it could be a software bug. Any suggestion on how to fix this? This is going to be so awesome with all 4 cymbals work!!

I have the latest firmware installed and using the latest version of the software on a Mac running Catalina.

Thank you!

That compatibility message indicates that there's an issue with the wiring of your pad. Make sure you are using TRS cables, and check the pad and cable with a multimeter. I think you will find that the tip and ring connections are shorted together. After you resolve your wiring issue, the input will work fine again.

Regards,
Rob

Hi,

in order to figure out if it is a wiring problem of that specific pad as Rob suspects, you could try out input one with one of the other pads and the respective cable. You said all the other pads/cables work just fine so just use one of them with input 1.
If it works then, the problem is caused by your pad/cable.

Best regards,
Pim

This same exact thing happened to me. Robs advice was spot on and he helped me sort it out. It was a circuit path between ring and tip at the terminals. I bent the ring tab away from the tip and it works great now.

Thanks for the replies!

I think I may have solved the problem by rearranging the order of my cables (all stereo trs cables). It was strange, the first input would always fail regardless of cable I used, but when I switched the cables on the other inputs, that were already working, it removed the compatibility warning from the first input. Hoping it continues to work!

Update: never mind. The first input is only triggering edge again. It works for a bit and then reverts to a broken configuration. I’m testing with a different cymbal and and the official Roland TRS cable it shipped with. The box works with 3 Roland ride cymbals. But once I add the 4th the configuration breaks.

I wonder if updating the firmware created this issue. I updated the firmware before adding 2 more cymbals for the first time.

When plug in the 4th cymbal, count how many times the led flashes. That'll give alme a better idea of what's going on.

The LED actually doesn’t flash. The bottom LED remains green and the top only illuminates red when I unplug the cable.

If it doesn't flash then there's no compatibility issue.

Try this:

1. Plug the pad in.
2. Set the pad type to Dual Zone Cymbal (even if it's already set to Dual Zone Cymbal)
3. Count the flashes (assuming the compatibility warning comes up).

I reread your original post and it seems like there may be a bug. Let me do some testing.
