Hey everyone. I am the very excited new owner of the edrumin. Hopefully it gets here soon and I will post my experiences and observation here.
I am currently running an a to e set up with drop in cake pan center mounted triggers powered by a td12 using SD3 through a Focusrite Scarlett. I bought it looking for expansion and to take advantage of the supposedly better triggering and PS and hotspot suppression. I’ve never been happy with my PS on the td12. I’m going to use it for my 3 zone snare (dual piezo), 4 dual zone toms (one center minted piezo), dual zone hi hat, and Hall effect controller. After reading all the glowing reviews a can’t wait to give this product a spin.
Any set up advice or testimonials would be greatly appreciated!
My new edrumin thread
Re: My new edrumin thread
How do I go about using this with the td12 to trigger SD3. Do I midi out to midi in of the td12 and out to my Focusrite? Or edrumin straight to Mac?
Re: My new edrumin thread
I suspect both options would work, but if you want the lowest latency, so straight to your Mac.
Re: My new edrumin thread
For clarification, a MIDI Message takes about 1ms to go through a device. If you went through the TD-12 and then the Focusrite, you'd be adding at least 2ms of latency.
Re: My new edrumin thread
Thanks. I’ll need a usb hub then. My two ports on my Mac book are already full with the interface and external. Will any usb hub do?
Also, he do I interact with the controller app? I have SD3 and pro tools first. Is it a standalone app or do I need to run it through SD3 or some other daw? I’ve read the manual but didn’t see if you specific have to use it with a DAW.

To answer your second question:
You have to install the eDrumin software with which you can set up your pads. This app is standalone BUT you don't need it to be open for the eDrumin to work. After 5 seconds or so the app saves all your changes/settings into the eDrumin module itself.
(@Rob: By the way, will there be an update to save/load your settings for all pads globally and also for pads individually?)
Inside your DAW you can assign the eDrumin as a MIDI device. Now you can choose the eDrumin as an MIDI interface for your VSTs. It's the same process as with every other Midi controller. And as I said, everything is stored on the eDrumin itself, no need to have the app running, so less latency and CPU usage.
Best regards,
Pim

Thanks for all of the info. I read the manual but I didn’t see these things covered.
So, do I need a DAW at all or can I just run this in SD3?
One more thing... I am using this with a td12. Can you select 2 different midi devices/interfaces in SD3? Thanks again. I just got he email that it’s been shipped. Only 2-3 more weeks!

No, you do not need a separate DAW.AKA Wayne wrote:Thanks for all of the info. I read the manual but I didn’t see these things covered.

1. Plug the eDRUMin into an available USB port, either directly into the computer or a USB hub that is plugged into the computer.
2. Start the eDRUMin control software. It will automatically recognize any plugged in eDRUMin device.
3. Start SD3. Select Settings => Audio/MIDI Setup.
4. In the dialog box select MIDI Device. You should see the eDRUMin device in the list. If the device doesn’t appear click Rescan Devices. Ensure eDRUMin device is checked and click OK. If your TD12 is connected properly it should also appear here. Select it as well so SD3 will receive MIDI from it.
If done properly you can run the eDRUMin software side by side with SD3 which allows you to hear what is being played while you are calibrating your triggers.
And yes, SD3 can handle many MIDI input devices. So running the TD12 and the eDRUMin into SD3 should work just fine. You may need a MIDI to USB cable for the TD12 like the iConnectivity Mio or the Roland UM-ONE mk2.

Thanks, Pim.

You do a much better job at explaining these things than me .
By the way, do you have any plans to implement a *save* function into your software so that we can save pads individually and/or all pads at once? So far I take a picture of my settings before I try a different pad in that specific input of the eDrumin (which is fine and works, of course; save/load would just be faster).
