head/rim adjustment / rim sensitivity / rimshot range control

Post by mprinz »

Hi Rob,

sorry to bother you again with that question:
Still my drum-tec style 10-spoke DIY snare and rim sensor sensitivity.

The head piezo is quite sensitive, really awesome.
The rim piezo is below the stage glued directly to the metal.

I hardly get a signal from that piezo. But it's working, I think.
Hitting the shell directly triggers a sidestick.

Gain is at 1.0 and I set the rimshot range control.
I need the a rather large head trigger region yellow to avoid false
sidesticks when hitting the head lightly.
Sidestick triggering is no problem.

How do I rise the rim gain? I already ordered some new piezos,
maybe I have to use 1 or 2 more on the shell. :)

The head piezo is placed on a decoupler even though being
mounted on a "stage" with three bolts and rubber sleeves.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings

Just increase the rim scaler.

Oh, that was fast.

The Rimshot scaler besides the X-stick scaler? Ok.

And that scales the gain of the rim piezo input?
I though that this will only scale the velocities of the low signal.

There's no way to independently adjust the rim sensitivity. To increase the volume of sidestick (x-stick), increase the x-stick scaler. If that's not enough for you, you can put the device in 'advanced' mode and then create an independent velocity curve for the x-stick articulation.

I guess I'm not really clear about what problem you are trying to solve, though.

The problem is, I do not get a rim trigger to scale. :|
I think - because the signal is to low.

I could set the rimshot range control to get it more easy but then
I get false sidesticks on subtle note on the head. :?

Sorry, I am at work but that is from a photo showing the input.

Everything looks in order there. I still don't understand what's not working right for you. I did just notice in the BETA, that the rim transient isn't always being updated properly. I'll have to look into that.

UPDATE: The issue with the rim transient not always being sent is fixed for the next build.

Transients update, yes... I want to report that.
