USB extension cable

Good day,
From my understanding it is suggested not to have the eDrumin device connected to a USB hub when you perform a firmware update, I was wondering if the same advice is given for a USB extension cable.
My drum set is not right next to my computer so I use an extension cable to connect the device to my PC, wondering if I would need to disconnect it from my drums and bring it over to my PC if I ever wanted to update it.
thank you

You're probably okay. To be honest I'm always updating my devices over hubs. I've seen some hubs do funny things though like randomly restarting connected devices, which can brick a device if it's in the middle of a firmware update, and that's why that warning is there.

Apart from that, would there be any noticeable lag or sync issues over a certain distance with USB extensions/hubs?

Absolutely no lag could ever be detected, since electronic signals travel at the speed of light. That said, with a significantly long cable, you could lose signal strength (and integrity), possibly, but the cable would need to be very long to begin to encounter those problems.

I've been updating my firmware through a powered USB 2.0 D-Link DUH-4 (nice little metal enclosure - bullet proof
) since the beginning (was early ED4 buyer). In my case everything is secured with zip ties and cable routing and the entire setup is plugged into a small UPS.

I have definitely experienced data corruption with longer USB cables. In fact, I have posted many times about about the crashes I was getting, a year ago or so. The issue went away when I started using proper USB
Active Repeater cables.
My laptop running SD3 is in a rack 12ft away from my kit.
