Help! Did I get a Lemon?

I'm hoping this is user error and not irony, but I just received an 18" Lemon ride cymbal and I'm thinking that the second input isn't working correctly.

I have it plugged into 2 inputs on my supplemental ED4 (arrived same day and works with no issues) using stereo/stereo connections on each.

All I get is a bow/edge articulation when testing it in the control software. Addictive Drums 2 doesn't have a sample for ride "edge" so I have that set to ride tip as well.

The problem is no matter how hard I hit, on any particular part around the inner circumference (or anywhere at all) of the bell will I see a trigger.

I've read that sometimes these can come configured as a cymbal and requires switching the quick single quick-connect from the one input jack to the other. This causes no sound to be triggered at all unless I switch the cords with each other, and that just offers up the same tip-only sound only harder to trigger.

Is there something I'm missing? I'd like to know before I initiate warranty on this.

The switch on a Roland Ride is notoriously difficult to trigger, so the bell input is setup to be extremely sensitive to get the best triggering possible from Roland Pads.

The bell switch on the Lemon cymbals appears to be extremely sensitive, such that hitting the bow too close to the bell can cause it to close ever so slightly causing mistriggers.

I have a Lemon 18" ride here, but it seems it's switch is not as sensitive as yours. In version 2 of the eDRUMin software/firmware I try to strike a better balance to hopefully clear up those mistriggers, and possibly add a bell sensitivity control (although I would prefer not to).

I'd be happy to get it triggering at all to be honest.

Should I go back in and switch the quick-connect to the "Ride 2" input for a ride or is it configured correctly for a ride on the "Ride 1" jack?

If you changed something from the way it was when you received it, then yes you should switch it back.

I already did that by default after trying the alternate config.

It just would be nice to know which jack it should be connected to for a ride configuration so that anything else I troubleshoot won't be wasted by having it the wrong way. I've already scoured the internet and the only thing I found out is that these cymbals can be wired as a ride or a crash by random chance and that if it's not working for the configuration you want it to, to switch it around.

Almost every post I read about somebody receiving this cymbal is that it pretty much worked great out of the box, or just needed to do that switch around.

So if it's not that, and I haven't set something up wrong in the control software, then I guess it must be defective.

Yes, thank you, that is how I have it though.

The internal connector is more of what I was wondering about because I don't think they always internally configure it for ride. The way I have it now is the way it came to me, wired to "Ride 1".

Appreciate the help but I think it's a lemon. :(

Two things I would do before you consider returning it.

1. Post a screenshot of your settings.
2. Test the ring connection of 2nd connector with a multimeter. There should be a connection between the sleeve and ring when you press on the bell area.

+1 for bell sensitivity control.

Why would you prefer not to have one?

Simply because it shouldn't be needed. Was it you who was having troubles with his Roland -> Yamaha adapter? I've made changes in version 2 to hopefully fix the triggering. At some point you'll need to test it and let me know if the issue is gone.
