Am just getting everything set back up again after moving -- and getting a few updates squared away.
I purchased the Legacy of Rock SDX because, well, I was always a big fan of the sound of John Bonham's drums and his style as well as Mitch Mitchell and the consensus seems to be very good on the quality of the samples, sounds, etc. in this SDX.
I was also thinking it would be really neat to be able to add a pedal to one of my ED pedal inputs if the timpanis could be tuned via a type of midi CC or other means. But it is looking like the Timpanis featured in this SDX probably don't have an "on the fly" type of tuning the pitch of the timpanis, I could be wrong though, I haven't spent too much time investigating it yet.
(i may just be pipe dreaming out loud here hehe)
So now I'm wondering if the Timpanis in the orchestral SDX's might have that capability. Does anybody know if they do?
And if either of these SDX options can do dynamic tuning via a pedal, is there a type of pedal (expression, volume, etc.?) that would be better for this type of controller input (EDIT: for use with the EDrumin's) to the timpani instrument in SD3?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
SD3 has a feature that let you tune on the fly every kit pieces.
You want to use the "pitch fx" feature, then choose "real time" and learn your CC.
You might want to have a fine controll over this pitch. Alas SD3 can't use pitch bend messages (which use a range from 0 to 1024). So the 0 to 127 range is used to set the pitch from -2.0 to +2.0 in the SD3 user interface. It means that by pressing your pedal you'll tune the drum from very veryvery low to very very very high... That's not what you want, and here you see that this 0 to 127 range is really not enough in this case. Pitch bend controller has been created for this kind of purpose.
But there's a workaround. You'll need to use the Macro parameter. You can define a custom range (i.e from -0.5 to + 0.5 instead of -2 to +2) and then your CC range from 0 to 127 will now control this custom range, which is now far more under control.
Not easy, look at those function, read a bit the manual, it's something cool in the end. SD3 is a very powerfull tool.
EDIT : pitch bend has up to 16 384 values ( = 128 x 128)

Awesome extra info - thanks! I also got some info posted back on the SD3 support forum but you provided more info. (they mentioned mapping a controller to pitch fx function).
I picked up two Yam FC7 pedals and will be trying this out very soon, also working on some other rack stuff.
Thanks!!!
