Is this for me?

Hey guys,
I have an A2E kit with jobeky side triggers apart from the snare which is centre mounted jobeky.
I use alesis cymbals with a 3 zone (2 cable ride).

At the moment I use either my alesis DM10 or my alesis trigger IO to send my MIDI data to my MacBook, where I use EZDRUMMER 2 to trigger my sounds, usually in logic.

I would like to have more control over my triggering options and ideally have more zones on my snare and hi-hat.

I have a goedrum hi-hat controller that works on my alesis modules. Will it also be good for the edrummin?

Also would It make sense for me a to either:

A: Get an ed4 and use it for my hi-hat, snare and two other pads I want more control over, connect via usb and then connect the rest to my trigger io and connect via usb

Or

B: Get an ed4 with 2 splitters so I can have a multi zone hi hat, multi zone (hopefully positional sensing) snare and then 4 more single zone pads or at least pads acting in single zone.

If I went that route I would just save up in the hope I could eventually just buy another ed4 and connect them both via usb at the same time.

Any thoughts on my situation? I don’t play live, I literally just jam out and record my own music so I love the idea of how tweakable and also how incredibly intelligent it is!

Hopefully you guys can help…
I’m a little bummed there are no ed10’s as that would pretty much solve my problems…
I wish I’d actually done research before jumping into the second hand eDrum market. Mind you, I needed the experience in order to know all the stuff needed to actually use Ed so meh.

Hopefully I should be pretty regular around here if I end up making purchases!

Ps - I was going to ask if it’s possible to use the software side of it with my alesis trig IO But I’m guessing no! That would also kind of half solve my issues at least until they have more ed10’s!

Goedrum works fine.

I'd go all on the eDRUMin, so everything is editable and controlled on one (visual) interface. This also means you can sell Alesis module. Single zone is absolutely fine for toms/kick and splash / china.

Thats awesome. The more video's I watch the more I REALLY wish they had the 10 input version available!

Although, having said that, its pretty astounding that you can get dual zone sounds out of a single zone pad or connection.
Im a very visual person with my music stuff, I always preferred using visual representations on computers, even in the Emagic logic platinum days. I just find everything so much easier to control and update when its on a computer.

Thanks very much for the reply I think im going to get 1

Can you wait a month?

Rob says there should be plenty of ED10 towards the end of January.

If an ED10 will trigger all your pads, just suffer a month longer! :)
It looks like two ED4 will be ok, or a single ED10.

I do believe that the triggering from the eDRUMin will be much better than your Alesis. The only reason to keep the Alesis is to trigger module sounds if it has MIDI in. If you only trigger VST, then sell the Alesis to help fund your eDRUMin unit(s).

Otherwise, just wait a month, and you will be rewarded with a great little unit.

One thing... if you go with two ED4, it's kinda cool to set one up on the right side of your kit to trigger all the pads on the right side, and one unit on the left, to connect all the pads on the left. You then have only one cable running between the two ED4, instead of all the cables from the other side. Helps cleaning up the cable mess! :)

I just made a really long post on my tabl;et and it wouldnt post annopyingly. OK im going to explain my kit to make sure im not going to have any problems.

Yeh I probably can wait a month, however, I actually have so many pads, I wouldnt mind a 4 to get started as well as a 10 when they are available. Here is what I have. Oh and as soon as I get home after x mas im going to switch it all from the dm10 to my trigger IO so I can sell the DM10 as I dont like the sounds at all and im just using it as a trigger to midi anyway.

ok so I have...

1. 14" a2e Jobeky centre mounted trigger (single crossbar design) - snare
2. Millenium 750-mps Hi hat pad on a proper stand (the pedal doesnt work with the dm10 so im just using the alesis pedal underneath but I just ordered the goedrum controller so...) - will be interesting to see if the edrumin allows the millenium Hi hat pedal to work.
3. goedrum alesis compatible HH controller.
4. 14" alesis dual zone cymbal pad as my crash (dm10 only registers the 1 zone tho)
5. 12" alesis single zone cymbal for second crash
6. Alesis 16" 3 zone ride (dual input)
7. Alesis 10" pad with 682drums cone mesh conversion for rack tom
8. 12" A2E Jobeky side trigger dual zone Rack tom
9. 18" A2e Jobeky side trigger dual zone floor tom
10. 3rd Cymbal as a china sometimes a milenium/alesis/medelli (all look exactly the same to me) or the trigerra china but that doesnt seem to want to work, I dont know if its the dm10 or what.
11. Alesis 12" pad with 682drums mesh conversion as a side snare
12 22" A2e jobeky centre mount kick trigger

Now I dont always have it all plugged in as obviously thats more inputs than just the dm10 or trig IO can take but thats basically what I have to play with but if I do I just plug them boith straight into the pc anyway.

Does anyone foresee any problems? I am mainly concerned about the performance of my snare and to be able to gain more control over the settings than any alesis module I know of can provide.
I am also, however, looking for a balance between additional performace and cost. It is really all the pads and triggers up to number 6 I am interested in tinkering with, the others I am happy to leave going through the alesis trigger IO.
Maybe in time I would expand but it all depends on how well the edge sense technology works with my pads as well as the control over my snare.

Oh yeh I do have another question. Does anyone know roughly how long it would take to ship one to the uk if I were to buy a 4?

Im pretty sure thats all for now.... thanks a lot guys you are being super helpful!

The only issue I can foresee is that the your snare is likely too hot for the eDRUMin. Jobeky uses cylinders instead of cones. Cylinders transfer about 3x as much energy as cones, which can cause clipping on the eDURMin as well most other modules.

682drums sell cones, they are soft and used for the alsis dm10 mesh conversion, could I not just put one on top of their cylinder and lower the mount?

Oh also can't I just turn down the 'gain' or wot ever its called in the app?

I also read somewhere if you have that problem, if you lower the fixture it sorts it out in conjunction with the sensitivity controls but having had s chance to try it yet as I'm away

I just posted in the dsp trigger forum and if I can get positional sensing on my snare through that via my focusrite scarlet audio interfaceI can def wait for the edrumin 10 to be made lol
