Hi guys, I am about to pull the trigger on a E10. I am going to convert a Maple Custom kit and I'd like to ask users here about their experience using external triggers with mesh heads. I will be using Superior Drummer 3. I record drums professionally so I need a solid solution.

Which models do you recommend? No Jobeky please. Can't trust a company never replying to messages and multiple emails.

Thank you.

Andy

If you want external triggers you won’t go wrong with Roland RT-30s. I don’t have personal experience but every review I read is positive that they work on mesh heads.

I would recommend the RT-30HR dual zone trigger for the snare and the RT-30K for the kick. I’m pretty sure eDRUMin and single zone external triggers the edge sense works, so you can get two zones. However, if you want rim shots you’ll have to get a dual zone trigger.

The Roland external triggers are nice, but a little cheaper and even better looking are the Yamaha external triggers.
Also dual zones. Also triggers nicely.

Andy, do you want external triggers because you want to convert back to an acoustic kit sometimes?
But if the conversion is permanent, internal triggers would let you have a center mounted piezo on the snare and have the positional sensing used in SD3.

You didn't mention about your cymbals.

One last thing, since you mentioned NO Jobeky. Completely understand.
But, there is a guy that offers solutions to e-drummers that is a joy to work with and will get you exactly what you need.

Dave, at Diamond Percussions is so nice, resourceful, and his stuff is top notch.
He used to be on VDrums forums, but Jobeky and their fan-boys attacked him, seeing him as competition. It was not pretty.
Check him out and drop him a line. You'll see... he replies! :)

Thank you guys for your replies! Yes the rationale behind the external triggers (I will keep recording real cymbals and hi-hat though) is that I want a fast solution to revert back to Acoustic. Wasn't aware of Diamond! Thanks for the heads up. Sad to hear he was attacked just for offering another solution. I have worked in pro audio for years and that's, unfortunately, the norm. This is why I gave up.

Love the look of Yamaha triggers by the way. They would look great on my Maple Custom.

I am a total noob when it comes to triggers as I usually associate them with metal drumming :)...

Dave has an eDRUMin device to test his setups.

So, yeah, you can be confident his stuff is compatible.

I dropped him an email too. Thank you for the pointer! He replied already. And it's Sunday. That says a lot about the guy :)
