Pintech HD foams?/Wiring questions

Post by ddropski »

Good Morning,

(Foam question)
I was reading the manual and it says that cone-shaped foams give the best results .. but unfortunately before I found Audiofront I purchased 9 Pintech HD foams they are supposed to improve hot-spotting ...Yadda yadda yadda.. had anyone tried these I'm hoping I didn't shoot myself in the foot. I do not have my ED10's yet but if they do give poor results would there be anything I can do? I would be assuming Pots would be required. I am not sure of the type or Value though. Only time will tell I included a link to the foams if interested to see them.

(wiring question)
Without trying to get into the whole Apple VS PC / Ford VS Chevy thing I am just curious and what is the difference between the Roland vs Yamaha wiring .. whats the benefits of each .. which works best with the Edrumin/ED10?

I appreciate any help anyone can chip in.

Can't comment on the Pintech HD foam but it sounds like they are probably going to make your signal really hot. Perhaps that's how they reduce hotspotting--by causing the signal to clip?

There is no advantage / disadvantage to Yamaha vs. Roland wiring.

I'm not a fan of cylindrical foams. They work, but as Rob says, they tend to make your signal very hot. I can't explain the physics of it, but when you use a conical foam (like these from UFO, which I love — or get these octagonal ones, same deal but cheaper) it translates your hits down onto the piezo a bit more subtly.

You can actually find foam cones like that from China, for half the price, on Amazon, and I've been meaning to check them out to see if they're any good, but I can't recommend them just yet.
