Admittedly, I haven't spent a ton of time on this, but after 40 minutes, I figured I'd be triggering SSD 5.5 successfully, but am really no where fast with the eDrUMin 4.
I have a Reaper template with SSD 5.5 setup, and that's a breeze to trigger from my DTX 700 over USB MIDI.
Reaper sees the eDRUMin module with no issue, but the Control software isn't exactly straightforward, unless you're a tweaker and like that sort of thing.
To keep it simple I have:
KP100 (kick) into port 1
XP80 (snare) into port 2
RHH-135 hihat pad into port 3
RHH-135 hi-hat controller into the front control port
As with everything Yamaha (which I regret buying to no end), nothing out of the box seems to support it, but I was able to select what I think are the correct pads.
Auto Select is on, calibration is auto, and it kind of sort of detects things, but as with everything Yamaha, I can't just select presets. I tried changing the SSD5.5 map to use SD3, Yamaha DTX900, Roland TD30 and then the equivalent in eDRUMin, but nothing is really triggering right: hi-hat doesn't really close right and seems to randomly trigger a tom sound, kick doesn't work at all, and snare kind of works the "best", but the rim is reversed (getting rimshot at the top, rim click on the bottom).
Before I dive into this thing and likely consume a ton of time here, does anyone have Yamaha DTX pads working with this thing successfully?

Re: Yamaha woes
The hihat controller plugs into the back, but I assume that's just a typo on your part.gravyface wrote:KP100 (kick) into port 1

Do you see any signal in the control application? Perhaps you can try another input on the device to confirm it's not an issue with a specific input.gravyface wrote:kick doesn't work at all
That's a pretty minor issue. Just way the note assignments for the SS or RS.gravyface wrote:and snare kind of works the "best", but the rim is reversed (getting rimshot at the top, rim click on the bottom).
Do you see that movement in the pedal editor of the control application when pressing down on the hihat pedal?gravyface wrote: hi-hat doesn't really close right and seems to randomly trigger a tom sound

I do, but the gain has to be cranked up pretty high.Rob wrote: Do you see any signal in the control application? Perhaps you can try another input on the device to confirm it's not an issue with a specific input.
Ok.Rob wrote: That's a pretty minor issue. Just way the note assignments for the SS or RS.
I do.Rob wrote: Do you see that movement in the pedal editor of the control application when pressing down on the hihat pedal?
What's the path of enlightenment? Is this supposed to be Tweaker's Paradise and I shouldn't have expected any sort of plug and play here? Should be loading the Yamaha map in SSD5.5 and in Control app? I tried that and Roland (and SD3 and whatever else SSD5.5 has), but now I'm getting toms for rim shots on the snare, and the bow on the hats is triggering toms too.
If this is going to be endless hours of this, I'll be selling it pretty quickly.
Re: Yamaha woes
If you want good results, you will need to learn the basics of how the control application works. As for the drum maps for SSD5.5, if that information was published somewhere, I would certainly include a SS5 drum map in the Control Application. It's my understanding that the common way to approach this is to use the MIDI learn function inside SSD5.
That said, if you are unwilling to spend the time to familiarize yourself with the software, then perhaps you are better selling the unit or return it to me for a refund.
Regards,
Rob

Re: Yamaha woes
Fair enough: I bought Red Hat thinking I was getting Windows, that's all.
With the Yamaha map, is that to supposed to be selected to sit the eDRUMin between a Yamaha module and the pads? I might try that, for sanity sake, see how it responds and then move onto SSD5.5.

Re: Yamaha woes
I'd say you bough Windows thinking you were getting iOS--to be fair, the Control Application is a couple steps up from a terminal window.gravyface wrote: I bought Red Hat thinking I was getting Windows, that's all.
The Drum Maps help you quickly set note assignments. If you use the Yamaha Map, then it's going to set the MIDI notes that are typically used by Yamaha modules. Generally speaking, if you set both the eDRUMin and the SSD to the same map, then the assignment will generally work. Please keep in mind that for the eDRUMin, you have have to apply the drum map for each individual pad. For example, if you want to use the a drum map your you kick and snare, then you first select your kick, and then apply the Yamaha kick drum map for your kick. Then you select you snare and apply the Yahama snare map.gravyface wrote:With the Yamaha map, is that to supposed to be selected to sit the eDRUMin between a Yamaha module and the pads? There's no reason why you need to use the Yamaha drum map. If both the eDRUMin and the SSD5 are set to use Roland drum maps, that will also work just fine.
Re: Yamaha woes
yep, gravy, I think you are being mixed up in the process, adding a VST on top of things.
Here's a way to bring it down to simple for you.
First, I assume you are also using the DTX700 along the ED4? I had that setup, and it was working really well.
I have no idea why you are using a nice input of the ED$ to trigger the kick. The kick doesn't need much tweaking from what the module can give you.
Use the ED4 for more dynamic stuff like the ride, the HH, the snare.
So, put back the kick to the DTX700 input.
Instead, plug in your ride in there.
Use the app to load the proper presets (Yamaha 3-zone cymbal for the HH and the ride, and Yamaha 3-zone pad for the snare)
While the pad/input is selected, click on auto-calibrate once, and do just like Rob showed in his calibration video.
Click again on the Auto button to get out of calibration (stops flashing)
Go to the Drum Map, and select Yamaha for the inputs.
Now, here's the trick so you don't get lost between the ED$, the module and SSD5. Get a MIDI din cable, and plug the MIDI from the ED4 to the DTX700.
Get into the menus, and select PassThru in the MIDI page.
In SSD5, you select Yamaha module map.
You'll get everything nice and clean.

Re: Yamaha woes
Beauty, thanks guys.
Bit of a long crushing day yesterday with work and was not up for an adventure, apologies if I came by snarky, but I just wanted to lay a beating on my drums.
Things are much better this morning, it's mostly working direct, but I'm going to follow percival's advice here and do a hybrid setup and watch that calibration video (that I wasn't aware of).
Do you have a DTX 700 module, percival?

Re: Yamaha woes
Yes, I have the DTX700, although it is mostly gathering dust as I also have the ED10.

That was going to be my next move if this panned out.perceval wrote:Yes, I have the DTX700, although it is mostly gathering dust as I also have the ED10.
With your eDRUMin 10, are you going direct to SD3/SSD5.5/etc.?
What Yamaha pads do you have?
I have the 720K kit, KP100/XP80/XP70 (3), but really hate the small sizes and was hoping that the eDRUMin would give me a vendor-neutral ability to upgrade pieces as they come available (new Roland VH14, used 12 and 14 inch mesh or silicone pads, etc.).
