Hi all,
I'm sure this is possible with the midi bank changes and the extra pedal port on the eDRUMin 10, but I need a little guidance.
How might you setup a snare throw off switch please (using SD3)?
Does the MIDI bank switching change the entire setup, or can it be assigned to one trigger?
I'm finally getting to grips with some Tool tracks, but need a snare-off articulation to sound right.
Snare throw off switch
Re: Snare throw off switch
If you only need to change the bank of a specific input without needing to worry about whether it’s selected or not. Using the input values 1-4, (1-10 on ED10) you can send bank change messages to specific inputs.MWJT42 wrote:Does the MIDI bank switching change the entire setup, or can it be assigned to one trigger?

What Mylo said. For more flexibility, you should consider loading that snare drum as an X-Drum (an additional instrument on the left of your Drum page) with the articulation loaded and assigned an available MIDI note/number, and routed to the appropriate microphones.
I'm doing this with 4 different percussion instruments assigned to a single BT-1; works a treat.

Finally go around to setting this up, however using bank changes with SD3 (using an additional instrument), the kick and toms still rattle the original snares! Minor, but would be nice to fully realise the illusion of a throw off.
Is there a command I can send to swap out the original snare, rather than using a separate instrument?

It's frustrating that the VSTs companies don't implement this stuff. Seems like a no brainer.
Re: Snare throw off switch
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a snare off articulation in SD3.
As for this setup… loading an extra snare into SD3 and setting it up for snare off and then using the bank changes on your snare pad is the way to go. I do this with my PDX-6s. I’ve loaded up single and multiple finger snaps and hand claps and rototoms into my SD3 kit and then use bank switching on the PDX-6s to get the sounds I want.
Re: Snare throw off switch
yeah the snare-off options are set up as separate instruments rather than articulations (hence the issue, which i hadn't considered before). i've sometimes had a separate physical pad set up as a second snare specifically for snare off - if you did the equivalent with an acoustic kit you'd still get snare bleed on the main snare so it's not necessarily an inauthentic sound. but being able to have it off would certainly be worthwhile and more typical-sounding for playing snare-offMylo wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 1:22 amI don’t think I’ve ever seen a snare off articulation in SD3.

Re: Snare throw off switch
Is the only ‘true’ option to load a whole new kit? One with a ‘no wires’ snare. Completely impracticable for the time it would take to load, but out of curiosity, can we get a switch on pedal 2 to do this in SD3?
Re: Snare throw off switch
Sadly, there is no way to use a MIDI message to change kits or presets in SD3. From what I understand this is doable with Cantabile.
Re: Snare throw off switch
You don’t have to load an entire kit to change your snare. Use the Add Instrument to add a duplicate snare. Since your kit already has a snare it will get added on the left. Set up this additional snare for “snare off” duty with all the proper articulations you want. You may have to change the MIDI notes on this snare as well (but SD3 may have selected different notes for you already). To change the MIDI note select each articulation from the list and edit the assigned MIDI note using the MIDI Mapping panel on the right.
You then take these MIDI notes and assign them to bank 2 in eDRUMin. When you flip the switch presto… snares off.
Superior Drummer tip: to decrease kit load times turn off all articulations that your kit doesn’t use. No sense loading an articulation you are not using. For example: cymbals usually have both bell and bow shank loaded. But a cymbal pad can’t differentiate between a shank or tip hit so in SD3 pick which articulation you want for a bell hit and turn off the other one.
