The resistor values aren't exactly critical because the input is buffered. I chose 10K because they are quite common. The circuit is just a voltage divider.
The amount of attenuation is R2 / (R1 + R2). So if the two resistors are equal, you're down 50%.
Jobeky snare too hot / positional sensing
Re: Jobeky snare positional sensing
Hi, thank you!
I really have an output voltage of 45V and above.
Monster piezos...
What are the typical outputs of the Roland pads?

Re: Jobeky snare positional sensing
I took another look at my input stage and you can get away by just using a current limiting resistor (one resistor in series with the piezo). It'll need to be in the range of 10K to 30K. Don't use more than you need.

Thanks for the info.
Rob, your support is absolutely outstanding!

Re: Jobeky snare positional sensing
Just a few more notes. There's a tradeoff by using that resistor. While it does allow the device to process hotter signals, the decay of the pad is prolonged (i.e. slower rolls and buzz rolls) and the precision of hotspot suppression goes down. In order to get the best result possible results, use the lowest value possible. While not attenuating the signal that much, I find find that using a 6.2k resistor strikes a very nice balance, although that might not be enough attenuation for you.
Re: Jobeky snare positional sensing
Hmm. Ok. The oscilloscope shows really a huge peak and than a much less stronger decay.
Could that be due to a trigger cone pressed to tight to the head?
Then I would really open the drum and check the trigger cone height.

Re: Jobeky snare positional sensing
And: Do I need to discuss about this with Jobeky Drums or is it a eDrumIn4-Jobeky1 combination problem?
Would it simply work on a Roland module?

Re: Jobeky snare positional sensing
I doubt Jobeky is going to change the way they do things. I haven't heard any reports of insufficient overhead using Roland gear, and certainly not with Yamaha either. Perhaps in the future I can build in more attenuation.
Re: Jobeky snare positional sensing
Alright!
I am on the road to work... And that's really annoying!
This evening I will check the cone height and if that's ok, I'll grab a resistor.
Thanks again!

Re: Jobeky snare positional sensing
just for the sake of completenes...
The Jobeky trigger signal... 4 spoke trigger setup
the grid is almost invisible
the peak is near to 65 volts
