Interesting. Have you ever replaced the piezo in your pad?

No. These are just standard Roland pads I got off of eBay.

(PD-120 snare, 3 x PD-80Rs for toms.)

Hotspot Suppression works brilliantly now. Maybe the Yamaha toggle just got switched around?

Nope, it didn't. I suspect the previous owner replaced the piezos and wired them the wrong way.

I've taken apart the PD-120 and it doesn't appear like anyone has messed with it, but who knows.

I did notice after banging away for a while that the Yamaha toggle didn't actually made much of a difference on the PD-80Rs. I'm still better leaving Hotspot Suppression off on those. But definitely a noticeable difference on the PD-120.

So worth a shot for others maybe, if you can't get the Hotspot Suppression to feel right.
