- What do we choose when selecting "pad type" for Hi hat. There is no Hi hat "pad type"....i've tried dual zone and, no matter what i choose, i can't get a sound from the hi hat. I can get sound from everything except the hi hat. ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi,
Did you read the manual? And which VST do you use?

My guess is that you did not map the notes correctly. Generally speaking, you have to assign the notes in the pedal editor correctly AND assign the notes for the pad
- that you *choose* to be your hihat* - correctly. Which exact notes you need to assign for your pedal and for your designated hihat-pad depends on your VST.

Best regards,
Pim

*The pad type you select is irrelevant for this. You can use a 'mesh center piezo' to be your hihat. Or a 'Yamaha-3-Zone' pad. Or a 'rubber pad'. All of the pad types can be everything. All of them can make hihat sounds. Or Bass drum sounds. Or snare sounds. What sound they produce is determinded by the notes you assign.

I think technically that may be possible but picking the correct pad type has benefits. From the manual:

“The pad type selector determines how the input jack will be wired electronically, and determines what kind of notes and controls are available.”

For the Jobeky hi-hat the correct pad type for the cymbal is Dual Zone Cymbal.

Hi Mylo,

Yes, that's true and of course, you should choose the correct pad type. But since kristerbluegenes said he/she is fairly new to all of this, it's important to understand that the sound is not connected to the chosen pad type.
In the past, I've even used the rim of my mesh center piezo pad as a hihat. It works.
In your example, your Jobeky cymbal could also trigger snare sounds. You use the correct pad type but the sounds you assign don't *have* to be Hihats.

Best regards,
Pim

Pim,

I get what you saying now. I’ve done similar things... cowbell on a rim for example.

The Jobeky top hi-hat cymbal is a dual zone cymbal so just set it up as any other dual zone cymbal using a TRS cable. The controller is a VH-11 and works very well.

Thank you. This helped verified that i had it set up properly. The problem was that i was trying to use the midi drums from Logic Pro. I could not get THAT to work. As soon as i installed superior drummer 3, it worked immediately.
Hope this helps somebody out there with the same issue.
