Acoustic Trigger Settings
Acoustic Trigger Settings
I'm currently using the Yamaha DT-50S and DT-50K on my acoustic drums with mesh heads and I'm having trouble getting it to trigger well. For the most part the snare and toms work decently if I raise the gain but the kick is horrible. Don't think it's able to detect enough velocity when I use the kick. Tried playing around with some settings but no luck so far. Was wondering if anyone knew ant tips I could try or if anyone's successfully used these triggers with the eDrumin 10 module...

Re: Acoustic Trigger Settings
I haven't even received mine yet so I hesitate to give any advice.
Also not familiar with those retrofit triggers but it looks like your problem could be mechanical and not software based. I have mesh drum heads as well and those DT units don't look like they would get a strong signal that close to the edge to begin with. If so, I'd figure they would have to be very tight to transmit enough signal.
I'm sure they have some amount of gain in the circuitry but I expect using these things on mesh heads doesn't transmit enough vibration and they are designed for real skins which would explain the lack of sensitivity in your case using the mesh heads.
I imagine at the prices they go for you would want to find a solution using them but I don't think they are the best way to go considering most EDK's have a centered skin piezo and another for rim triggering.
If it was me, I'd just buy a bunch of piezos and retrofit but that would take a bit of work for each kitpiece so I understand your dilemma.
Hopefully it's something that can be compensated for in software somewhere along the line but I suspect the resulting signal in your case is too anemic for good tone/volume differentiation.

Re: Acoustic Trigger Settings
Plenty of people are using the Yamaha DT-50K with Roland modules at VDrums, I'm sure there is a way.
Maybe there is a gain dial on them, like the one they have on their cymbals?
Try different tightness of the trigger.
Finally, you might have a chance to talk to actual users of the product at VDrums. If they work on a Roland module, they should work with the eDRUMin as well.
