Edrumin 4 + Alesis Samplepad Pro

Post by Se4roth »

Hi there,

thanks to 65 Drums I got to know about the edrumin 4/10 and am really impressed with it. I am primarly a guitarist but i do some home recording and have an Alesis Samplepad Pro together with a hi hat Pedal, a Roland KD-8 kick trigger as well as a cheap mesh Pad as a snare. Overall this Setup works for me, especially since I don‘t have a lot of space.

But now I am thinking about upgrading it with an edrumin to be able to use a Roland vh 10/11 and get postitional sensing on the Snare (+maybe a ddt ms 140 instead of the cheap Pad) + maybe a ride/ Crash (maybe Roland CY13). In the long run I‘d like to build me a proper converted e drum set with acoustic Shells.

But for now. Does anyone know if the edrumin is compatible with the Samplepad Pro?

Thanks in advance !!

You're looking to trigger sounds on the Samplepad Pro? It's got MIDI in, so I would assume it's possible. I doubt it supports positional sensing CCs though. Maybe it has center / offset snare articulations?

Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me about that product will chime in.

Thank you so much for the fast reply!

Sorry if i didn‘t explain it properly. I‘d like to for example use the edrumin for an additional snare Pad like the ddt ms140 and the Roland VH10 as a hihat (since they are the Most important for me, and i want a realisitc feel and i saw it in one of your Videos in youtube :)). For the Rest i d like use the Samplepad for now until i have more space. Now im not sure if it is possible use this combination..

If you are intending to trigger sounds on the SamplePad, you're likely going to run into troubles with the hihat. To be honest, I can't be sure because Alesis provides almost no documentation for that product.

eDRUMin sends out a hihat position CC and the SamplePad would need to be able to interpret it to determine which hihat samples to trigger.

yeah the documentation is really bad, it was already annoying to setup a normal hihatpedal and it does not work great. Sorry if im a little bit slow on the topic.. Does it make a difference if i dont want to use the internal Sounds? I normaly hook the Samplepad up to my PC via usb and use ezdrummer oder superior drummer, so i just want to use it as additional Midi Information for the toms and so on and the edrumin for the hihat+snare.

Thanks again for your fast reply!!

If you're going to be trigger sounds on the PC, then the two are a great match. EZDrummer and Superior Drummer can handle MIDI from both the eDRUMin and your Samplepad at the same time. That would allow you to have the eDRUMin handle your snare and hihat as well as too more pads, and then your Samplepad for everything else.

One thing to note is that ED4 is currently out of stock. I'm just finishing up the development of the next generation of the device. Depending of the availability of parts (which is pretty tricky these days), I might have more by mid February.

Perfect, that Sounds Great! Thank you so much for your patience!

Yeah I already read that it is out of stock, but thats no problem. I just wait with joyful anticipation :) but i can Imagine it must be quite difficult due to the circumstances. I might even buy the edrumin 10 to be able to upgrade to a full kit at some point but need to think about it some more.

I wish you all the best with this great product!
