Yes, there’s only one input. I’m not planning to use the bell So it works fine for me as is

My metal cymbal arrived today, thank-you Mylo. I didn't realize that these things used piezos on the bell. Looks like the compatibility warning is working exactly like it should.
Dave, perhaps you can share your insights on this topic. I've been told that it's not a good idea to subject piezo's to DC voltage. eDRUMin as well as Roland modules use DC voltage to read switches. eDRUMin uses about 1V DC, but I suspect other modules use higher voltages.
To properly support these kinds of cymbals without subjecting the piezo to DC voltage, I'd need a new 3-Way Metal Cymbal pad type (piezo / switch / piezo).

Hi, works great with piezo on bell for Roland, Alesis etc
I will be working on a bell switch solution when back at work for the edrumin.
I have surface bell switches but need something for underneath.

I believe you that it'll work, but I wonder if there is any long term damage to the piezo. The whole reason I implemented that compatibility check was to prevent this sort of situation. To be honest, I haven't done any hard core research, but I was advised by Mr. 2Box that peizos should never see DC current.

Had them out there for about 2 years.
No issues, piezo can be easier to trigger. More dynamic.
Other companies use bell piezo also for many years
I'm happy that drums (bass drum sensitivity now sorted) hi hat and crashes work great on the edrumin. Just that bell on ride to sort now. It's a case of making something that will trigger consistently.

It shouldn't be too much trouble to add a new piezo / switch / piezo pad type with a bell sensitivity control. I think that's the safest and most reliable approach. Maybe I can get it done for version 1.3.1.

No problem. Hopefully you’ll be able to work it out and open up the eDRUMin to a bunch more cymbals. And if I remember correctly the FIELD ride is built the same way. It has a piezo on the bell as well. But the FIELD isolates the bell essentially making it two cymbals in one. I can’t really speak to how they wire it though. The FIELD also provides multiple options: standard dual input jack or a switchable output configuration which allows for 3 zones on 1 jack or traditional 2 jack setup.Rob wrote:My metal cymbal arrived today, thank-you Mylo. When you think about it they pretty much have to use a piezo on a metal bell... no way a bell on a metal cymbal is going to bend to turn on a switch like the edge switch does.

Yes and no. It's electrical. A piezo and a switch are treated differently. eDRUMin inputs are quite flexible though and can be reconfigure via software.
