What is the overlap regarding HH controller capability between the edrumin and the MIDI Expression products?
Using a Yamaha HH65 + PCY-100 via DTX502 currently and looking to improve HH feel.
Are the 2 audiofront devices equivalent in that area?
Just found out about audiofront todays, so am excited & hopeful.
Cheers.

I was on similar journey, I had a DD6500 and was tired of the feel of the hihat. I cannot really answer your question about the Midi Expression device, because I settled on the eDrumin in the end. All I can say is that with the eDrumin, a Roland FD8 pedal and a Roland CY5, my hihat felt like a hihat for the first time. I was able to play stuff that I was only able to play on my acoustic set till then. Finally, some piece of mind.
I chose the eDrumin because I also wanted to try out if it would also improve the responsiveness of my snare. And the difference to my old module was astounding. But of course I don't know if that also applies to you.
If the Midi Expression performs on the same level as the eDrumin, I think either is a good choice. Playing my e-drums has become immensly more fun since I got it.
Best regards,
Pim

The hihat controller input on the back of the eDRUMin is a MIDI Expression input.

Ahh...
So I get all of the MIDI Expression device features AND 4 trigger inputs with the eDRUMin.
Based on all the research I've done today -- while I should've been working -- I think ima pop for the eDRUMin.
Thanks loads!

Not entirely correct. Not all of the MIDI Expression functionality is exposed in the eDRUMin interface. I do plan to expose more in the future, though.

Re: edrumin or midi expression for HH?
I can confirm that my hi-hat feels natural with a Yamaha PCY135/DIY Hall effect pedal into Superior Drummer. I've got edge, bow and bell working. Just took a few minutes on the eDRUMin to calibrate and then a few more in Superior Drummer to dial it in.
Re: edrumin or midi expression for HH?
Ok, I think I've finally found a solid use case for the eDRUMin for my needs. I will be getting the new TD-27 in the near future, but I didn't want to use the snake cable coming with it. I was thinking of using the eDRUMin and use the 4 ports to replace the 7 inputs from the snake I would have to use, like this:
-hihat (+controler on the separate port)
-crash 1
-toms 1-2, each as mono
-kick + tom 3
My questions are:
First of all, that works, right?
Second, is there anything I'd be missing in terms of Hi-hat triggering, compared to a Roland module? I have a VH-11. I remember reading that closing the hi-hat in other modules produces an extra bow sound, for example.
Is there anything that is actually better (even if it takes configuration) on the edrumin for the Hi-hat triggering? I guess maybe I can get a bell sound, but I'm not very interested in that.

Yup, that works assuming you have or can make splitter cables for you toms and kick.Exci wrote:-hihat (+controler on the separate port)

I use a VH-10 and it works great. There is a separate crosstalk control that can be used to prevent the hihat pedal from triggering the hihat pad when the pedal moves quickly. To be honest it, it could be improved yet. When I release the hihat pedal quickly, this can sometimes cause the hihat to trigger as well. I have plans to improve that, but it's not at the top of my list as the current implementation is already pretty good.Second, is there anything I'd be missing in terms of Hi-hat triggering, compared to a Roland module? There are a couple controls that let you fine tune the responsiveness of your hihat controller. I would say the hihat pedal triggering is at least on par with Roland's. I did a lot of R&D in this department during my development of MIDI Expression using many types of pedals and controllers from both Roland and Yamaha to make the implementation as dynamic, reliable and consistent as possible. Is there anything that is actually better (even if it takes configuration) on the edrumin for the Hi-hat triggering? Sounds good enough to me!
I noticed that there is no stock at the moment. When can I expect to be able to place an order?

I'm on vacation in Canada at the moment. I'll be back on the 22nd and I'll have units available then. You'll have to time it right to get your order in before the Chinese New Year break.
