eDRUMin 2.4 BETA

Post by Rob »

eDRUMin version 2.4 BETA is now available. Downgrading from will result in your device being factory reset. I recommend saving a device snapshot of your settings before updating.

New Features
  • Velocity gates for Custom Notes
  • Added global MIDI Channel setting
  • Added a separate positional CC / note setting making it easier to change--especially when the input is a 'Kit Piece'
Improvements
  • Improved the display accuracy of the steady hats display.
  • Improve cross-stick performance on ATV snare with cross-stick bracket (and possibly other snares).
  • MIDI Feedback warning when enabling 'send to self'
  • Replaced art scaler controls with sliders.
  • Updated manual.
Bug Fixes
  • Hihat Position indicator not showing effects of curve
  • Sometimes velocity in the inputs is displayed correctly (only yellow)
Notable Changes
  • Per input chan setting is now hidden and disabled by default--can only be enabled / changed in advanced mode.
  • Removed ring piezo signal from thresh and ring transient
  • Resetting an input that's set to dual mono, will now only reset the setting for the selected half.
Please see the updated manual for more information about the changes. If your inputs were configured to use a channel other than channel 10, then they should continue to transit on the specified channel (assuming your device is in advanced mode). There have been some changes to the layout of the sense controls. If you see any badly positioned or overlapping controls, please let me know.

What do you think of the new articulations scalers? Do you prefer the knobs from previous versions? For dual piezo pads, I've separated the sense controls into two groups because I was planning on adding more controls (may still in the future). Do having the controls grouped bother you, or should I try to go back to a single set.

is there a place to download the updated 2.4 manual? I would like to look through that before installing the new version.

Thanks for the manual link.
This probably isn't the right place to ask this but... there seems to be a typo in the manual I think it has been there in the other ones too. I will paste the paragraph here about positional sensing:
"The Min Range control defines the size of the ‘center’ region of
the pad. When hitting directly in the center of the pad or even
slightly off-center, the position indicator should fall to the far
right, but as you hit closer to the edge, the red indicator will
suddenly jump over towards the right. The Min Range control
should be set somewhere between the far left and the point
where the indicator just starts to jump to the right."

Should this line say left?
" but as you hit closer to the edge, the red indicator will
suddenly jump over towards the right".
It just doesn't make sense to me that it would jump to the right. thanks, Mbira

Thanks, hb1980 . Maybe I could have the UI very briefly flash 'manual save mode' whenever it's opened to prevent this sort of issue.

I think that would be more intuitive after factory reset. I've never deliberately disabled autosave and sort of forgot it existed. I must have accidentally clicked it and then went down a rabbit hole thinking something was really wrong :D

I did wonder at one point whether an input reset and factory reset might be good where factory reset puts the unit back to delivered state including resetting all input and unit settings, deleting user presets etc. and input reset just clears all input trigger settings and mappings but retains unit settings like advance mode, auto save, midi filters etc. but that's probably overkill.

Back on topic to 2.4- it's working great, thank you for the hard work!

Hoping to try atv side stick properly at some point.

Using that ATV snare with the cross-stick plate, I was able to differentiate rimclicks and cross-sticks (hitting the plate vs hitting the rubber on the rim). Unfortunately it wasn't quite reliable enough to put it into production. Maybe I'll take another stab at it some time in the future.

I just updated BUT it will only update the firmware on 1 of my 2 edrummins that are linked together.
The first one updated fine as far as I can tell, the 2nd sits on the waiting screen then dumps back to the main window without updating.

It also spit out a log to my desktop which I have pasted here:
