Does anyone know if 1 eDRUMin10 creates less latency than 1 eDRUMin4 connected to an eDRUMin8 module (host)?

Hi Denis,

for me it's still not clear how this is managed. All the gamers are complaining about their high keyboard input latency.
Talking about above 5ms.

Right now I've read that USB MIDI uses the bulk transfer protocol and that means polling is at a much increased rate.
I checked the latency with the eDRUMin10 connected through a hub and without, with USB sticks copying large files through the same
bus... no *noticeable* increased latency. I did not perform detailed masurements.

Maybe Rob can comment on this, but I think you will be fine!

Thank you mprinz for trying to answer the question! In another thread, Rob said that this combination doesn't create more latency.

The lag problem:

Lag is more of an issue with e-drums that any other case. I want to hear sound in under 4.5ms from the time I hit the drum. With 3ms of that taken up by triggers, leaves 1.5ms for everything else. I went with RME MADI FX and Ferrofish A32 to handle it. Have to use RME configs with minimal channels to keep buffers at 64.

Before I found eDRUMin, the fastest drum brain was the original TMC6

And what was the outcome with the RME MADI FX? Did you find very low latency?
Noting that others have reported very good results with the Motu M4, and where I'm from the RME interfaces are usually about double the price of other brands - was it worth it for you?

For me it was. Able to get reported ASIO lag under 1ms out and 1.5 ms in with 128 buffers at 96K. Also includes direct monitoring on inputs using total mix. Not cheap to go MADI.

DEVICE->SOFTWARE
Then there's about 3ms of latency from when a MIDI note is sent from the eDRUMin until it reaches software running on the computer.
I've measured this on my edrumin and didn't get the same results. However good news, the edrumin is very fast. It seems to add about 1 - 1.5ms for me.

I measured by hitting on a cymbal pad which has the piezo basically directly under where I hit so physical latency before the scan time should be minimal and I got basically scan time + 1.5ms before the MIDI was recorded.

I'm guessing the actual time is probably closer to 1ms and the rest is the physics of the pad.

Your measurement is probably correct but most of those 3 ms is the analog part before the scan time actually start. The pad it self has a little bit of latency. Cones are soft, vibrations take some time to travel etc. I've measured cones to about 1-1.5ms if I remember correctly (depending on height and material) and the latency of striking a pad close to the edge until the wave hits the center sensor can also be 1-1.5ms. Or perhaps you have a drum with side mounted triggers where the opposite is true, you get more latency in the center.
