HiHat CC mode vs Control Change?

Reading the manual, My hihat pedal is set to Expression since I have an optical hihat controller and powered from eDrumin.

I'm assuming I'm not using HH Level mode I would use would use HiHat CC mode? When do you use Control Change ?

For drumming, you probably wouldn't use Control Change. But imagine you are playing guitar and want to use an expression pedal (or hihat controller pedal) to control some effects for your guitar. That's when you would use control change mode.
