Noisy pedal input with Roland FD-8

Post by mprinz »

Hi,

I noticed the pedal input being quite noisy on the eDRUMin4 ED4 2.3.0.16
I also tried the other ED4. Same behaviour. Maybe it was like that for years but now I noticed it.

Maybe it's the FD-8 softpot? But when using a 10k resistor it shows the noise as well.

I just tested a first generation ED4 and the pedal input is fine. If a 10K resistor is showing the same problem, then my first guess would be a problem with your cable--it looks to me like the tip or ground connection is floating. The only other explanation might be having the wrong firmware installed.

Hi!

I checked the already. Good.
What do you mean with wrong firmware?
Which one should it be?

I mean hardware revision. If you examplemyou had an ED4R1 and it somehow got ED4R2 firmware on it, that might cause that problem, but I think you would notice other weird hardware issues as well. You can double check by doing a factory reset and looking in the firmware update page.to make the device revision displayed there matches the device you have.

I still think it's a cabling issue, especially because you are seeing it one two seperate devices.

Hi Rob,

it's not a cabling issue. Is a too much cabling issue.
I somehow suspected that and I unplugged some USB jacks and stuff.
It seems to be a - kind of - ground loop through the USB2MIDI connection of the FCB1010 or the FTDI2USB connection of the USB2DMX interface
and the 230V connections of the FCB1010/DMX PARs/Pixelstrip controller.
Because ... If I unplug the PARs and crap there is dead silence on the pedal inputs.
Sorry, wasting your time, Rob.

I think I will somehow convert the FD-8 to an "active" device and use it as voltage divider. Does this make sense?
The two "active" Hall sensor pedal inputs on the eDRUMin10 and the other eDRUM4 aren't noisy.

Or ... are there some USB ground lift adapter?
