Considered an eDrumin interface for Android, Iphone?

Post by CapCrunch »

I would consider using an eDrumin in a live gig if there was an app for my phone in case something significant got off. If I was totally dependent on using an eDrumin I'd either need to lug around a laptop or take my chances. I wouldn't do that now so am dependent on a dedicated module. Even a barebones app for the most critical functions. Even better would be if it had bluetooth or wifi function like many mixer interfaces have now (for example flow8 Behringer). Part of eDrumins appeal, to me, is it's compactness, so a phone app would go along with that.I'd pay extra for that. Thanks

Cool. I didn't know that. Wouldn't you know I just got a new phone but have always used Android. I guess I'll have to check out an inexpensive iphone to test this. Thanks. Maybe an Android version in the future or wouldn't that work? Thanks

Unfortunately the graphics library I'm using isn't supported on Android yet.

I don’t understand your setup. Wouldn’t you already be lugging a laptop around for your drum sample software?
Miscellaneous Roland triggers. ED-10 + ED-4. MacBook Pro (2015), 16G RAM, Big Sur. Superior Drummer 3. Logic Pro.

Also unfortunately if you want to do music stuff Apple just has far better / less latency prone implementations of basic things. This is one of the few cases this wouldn't matter, but in general if you want to do live performance stuff iOS or MacOS is the way to go.

That said I use Android because F Apple's walled garden...

FL Studio Mobile seems to be the best option there. Unlike everything else it lets you remap notes, so you can select what pad plays what sound on your Android instead of having to do it in eDrumin config.

Here is the appropos doc, which took a while to find:

Mapping Drumpads - Drum Pads start at C4 (MIDI note 48) and up to A5 (MIDI note 69). To change the mapping - Open the Drum Sampler and long-tap on the Sample Channel for the pad you want to change, then select 'Set MIDI Key' and play the pad or note on your controller you want to use for that sound.

I've also found the "MIDI Connector" app very useful. It lets you route a BLE device to a virtual MIDI port.
