eRUMin with other hardware (newby advice request)

Post by Vinito »

A couple days ago I ordered a couple ED4's since the 10's are gonna be sparse for a good while. The 8 inputs might be enough for a while, especially while I'm just figuring it out. Ultimately I am likely to want more finesse out of my kit though so it's likely I'll want more advanced/subtle control over my stuff, so I may outgrow the 4's... maybe?

What I'm wondering is I have a couple other drum modules that are either more basic or were not quite flushed out enough for me to understand how to set up for things to trigger well (the software being one HUGE reason I was attracted to Rob's stuff). So my question is whether I can get the midi signals from one or the other drum modules (megadrum and ddrum) to somehow interface with the eDRUMin software so I can use those to add simpler triggers, i.e. single-zone, etc., and widen my horizons with the thing.

I suspect that will likely be difficult if not impossible without a 10 instead of these 4's, if this is possible at all. Anybody have thoughts on this, especially if you have already some experience interfacing with some kind of additional modules in tandem with the eDRUMin?

I guess I'm just kinda wondering if I should study up a bunch on this or would I be chasing shadows down a dead end.
Thanks for any replies.

The eDRUMin software can not control those other modules. Assuming you are triggering on your computer, you should be able to use MIDI from both eDRUMins and your other 3rd party gear at the same time.

Thanks.
Duh! Obvious now that it's the VST software is what needs to interface with the modules and I can simply plug the other module(s) directly into the PC for the simpler triggering stuff, i.e. no need to go through the eDRUMin.

Sometimes I can be pretty stupid. In my defense, it has been a while since I messed with this stuff.

Don't beat yourself up. This stuff has a learning curve, but is also well worth learning.
