Not Getting All 3-Zones w/ 18" Lemon Ride

Post by tmac01 »

Hello all I hope all is well. So I have been at this for a while and no matter what I have tried I cannot get my Lemon 18" ride to play all zones specifically the edge zone. It works fine playing the bow and bell but no edge. I do notice than when I hit the bell the bow triggers but the bell never triggers no matter what I try even though I can hear it but I can never hear the edge. The Lemon cymbal is setup correctly as a ride cymbal. I am using the Roland 3-zone preset and I am triggering it with Superior Drummer 3. I have en Edrumin 10 and 4 and the ride is setup on inputs 1&2 of the Edrumin 4. It worked fine when I was using an Alesis Strike module just a few months back so I know the cymbal is fine. Just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated !!!!

Maybe you have your cables connected backwards? I can't be 100% sure what your problem is, however, because I think you've mixed up 'bell' and 'edge' a few times. Can you double check it and I'll try reading it again?

Hey Rob I flipped the cables and when I do that I get no sound at all. When I first got the lemon 18" ride I was using an Alesis Strike module and I had to flip the cables in the lemon cymbal so it would work as a 3-zone ride. When I hit the bell of the Lemon ride it triggers the edge on the Edrumin. I have tried everything for days now and no luck :(

Here's a link to post showing how the cables should be connected.

Not sure how it's supposed to be connected internally.

Yeah it’s setup correctly but only one input is working. I tried using just each input individually and one input when connected gives no sound at all.

Unlike Roland cymbals, the Lemon doesn't send the piezo signal along with the bell switch. If I only connect the bell input from my Lemon to an input set as 'Dual Zone Input', I don't get any sound either, but if I press down on the bell, the 'Choke' does light up showing that the switch is working properly. Maybe you can try that to determine if there's an issue with your bell switch.

Hey Rob !!!! It’s a faulty cymbal as Kenny confirmed it after I sent him a few videos. He said he is going to send me another cymbal so hopefully I’ll be up and running again soon. Thanks !!!!

Exact thing happened to me and Kenny replaced the cymbal. New one works great. I'm pretty sure the problem was with the second input itself although I didn't see any obvious cold-welds, oversplatter or misshaped components.

Also, consider resetting the input and make sure to plug in the cymbals first and the connection to the ED inputs last. I had another cymbal that wouldn't trigger the second piezo for a while and thought it was defective but started working perfectly after resetting the input and re-assigning the pad type.

Additionally, I've also had occasional issues with adapters as I run thinner cable than you generally see with 1/4" cabling and use 1/8" to 1/4" adapters.

FYI - I had the same symptom when installing a new Lemon 18". Turned out to be some wonky setting that stuck when I changed the edrum inputs to 2-wire for the 3-zone support, and I think the gain was zeroed out or very low on one of the inputs before changing to 2-wire. Not fixable from the 2-wire settings that I could tell (something I've been meaning to go back and confirm, and file an enh request if not supported). I had to switch back to 1-wire inputs and then I saw the issue. Easy to fix when you stop assuming it is a hardware problem and look closely at the input controls.

The other post about resetting the inputs is probably the right move when doing any input switch-ups.
