Generate Velocity

Is there any way to use an ME to generate a constant sting of velocity like cc#11 using an expression pedal?

No exactly sure what you are after. You want to the ME to send cc11 even when the expression pedal isn't moving?

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. Say, my controller doesn't send out velocity. Is there any way to generate velocity via the ME? I need to be able to control the velocity realtime rather a fixed level.

I'm still not clear on what you are after, but I'm 99% sure it's going to do what you want. You can for example use an expression pedal to send out CC11. As you move the pedal, it sends out a CC message in the range of 0-127 corresponding to the pedal's position. i.e. not a fixed value.

OK, let me give it another shot; Can I use an expression/volume pedal to send out velocity in the range of 0-127 corresponding to the pedal's position. i.e. not a fixed value? By the way, I have three MEs and one of them is MIDI Expression iO. Thanks.

Hi Reed,

Of course you can. Plug in your expression pedal, open the control application, and change the CC value from 7 to 11 and your are good to go.

Rob, please bear with me for one more question. You said, "change the CC value from 7 to 11" in the control application. CC7 is for volume, and cc11 for expression, and I understand that velocity is not part of any CC messages. Yet, you are saying that this will send out velocity in the range of 1 and 127 depending on the pedal position? Appreciate your help.

So, you want to send velocity sensitive Note-On messages with an expression pedal?

My midi controller sends out note-on messages obviously but not velocity. I wanted to add only velocity messages using the ME.

So you want to modify the velocity of note-on messages from your midi controller using an expression pedal. That's not possible. Sounds like a good feature request though.
