Got my MEiO on Friday. Quite a gamechanger! Even with something as simple as a single footswitch to control looping, it makes for a much better experience when your hands are full (my main instrument is a wind controller).
By any chance, does anyone else use a two-button footswitch like this one?
Marshall PEDL90010: https://reverb.com/p/marshall-pedl-9001 ... footswitch
Got two of those (they were on special for 10CAD each). First one didn’t send signal properly, which was quite troublesome. The MIDI Expression app would sometimes get something, but mostly not.
The second one does consistently get recognized by the MIDI Expression. But it sounds like both buttons send exactly the same thing. Tried different ways to assign things separately and nothing worked. Even got a stereo breakout (YPP-136) to plug the one pedal into two inputs on the MEiO, same issue. In fact, the ¼ inch plug only has one ring, so it’s not sending two things?
Don’t get me wrong, having a footswitch is already pretty nice. But it’d be neater to control two different things.
Will buy other pedals, including an expression one from M-Audio. In the meantime, pretty much stuck with a single message (using it as CC to control a looper).
Cheers!
Splitting Input from Two-Button Footswitch?
Re: Splitting Input from Two-Button Footswitch?
Ya, if you buy a two switch pedal, you'd expect to get two switches. I don't actually have that pedal, but I'll order one so I have one to test with. I looked at the wiring diagram for the pedal and I wonder if those LEDs and resistors inside might be causing troubles. How about the cable you are using? Are you connecting it with a TRS cable?
Re: Splitting Input from Two-Button Footswitch?
In fact, I see that it includes a TS cable, so it's not surprising that it doesn't work. I'll order one and see if there's a way to properly support it.

Could send you my extra one, since it doesn’t work…Rob wrote:In fact, I see that it includes a TS cable, so it's not surprising that it doesn't work. I'll order one and see if there's a way to properly support it.
More seriously, you’re under no obligation to test whichever footswitch or pedal we happen to get! Will try to find a “real” two-button switch. Or focus on expression pedals, as the other Alex does.
Re: Splitting Input from Two-Button Footswitch?
Thanks or the offer, but I've already ordered it. It's a pedal that's been around a while and if I can support it, I will.
Marshall PEDL-90010 Wiring Diagram
So I got that Marshall footswitch, PEDL-90010. Seeings as there are absolutely no wiring diagrams on the net, I decided to open it up and make my own. I'm not entirely sure how I'm supposed to interface with it, but I'll play around with it this weekend.

Wow! Thank you! Really didn’t expect this level of dedication.Rob wrote:So I got that Marshall footswitch, PEDL-90010. Might end up just buying another footswitch. But if this one can work, that’d be great!
Re: Splitting Input from Two-Button Footswitch?
I played around with the pedal today and was able to get both buttons working, so the MIDI Expression hardware is indeed able to support it. It might be able before it's officially supported, but this evening's test are certainly encouraging.
Re: Splitting Input from Two-Button Footswitch?
I've released MIDI Expression 2.8 software today. It includes partial support for this pedal. It'll only work properly when pedal sensing is enabled on the input. Enjoy!
