Have a look at the hall-sensor thread in the DIY section here. I just followed this guide and built my own hall sensor this weekend. Took me about 2 hours to finish and works great!

Thanks for those suggestions. But the point would be to do it without a computer running. When I boot the PC, I can just play through SD3. But often, it's a lot more convenient to power up the device and be able to instantly play, especially when I only wanna play a little during a short break.
