Field 3-zone Ride

Post by Coach »

Any tips for getting a Field 3-zone Ride to work? It’s got two outputs: bow/edge, bell. Every config I try for a stereo bow/edge input in edrummin says Compatibility Issue. Advice?

Sounds like the Roland wiring setup.
If it's Bow (piezo) / edge (switch) on a stereo jack
And bell (piezo) on the right side of a stereo jack, it will just plug and play.

Have you tried setting it up as a 2 zone first, and ignoring the bell?

Also, I had constant compatibility issues as the switch was short on my DIY cymbal - might be worth checking.

The Field is interesting in that they physically separate the bell from the rest of the cymbal essentially giving you two cymbals. The only way I got it to work was to use two inputs. One for the bow/edge and one for the bell.

That thread my not apply if you have the newer one with an A-B switch.

Are you using the 3 zone 'Metal' Cymbal preset?

Yes, I tried that with no luck. Going to try the suggestion above in the meantime.

Actually, I can’t even get the suggestion from the other thread to work. Using any cymbal type with a stereo input says “Compatibly Issue”.

Can you test if you have a short?

I would say either there's a short somewhere in your bow/edge connection, or Field is doing something different with the edge switch. Do you have a link to that cymbal?

Wow. Their market machine is cranked up to 11. There are a lot of TM's in their description, so I think it's highly likely that they are doing something non-standard.

There's a way to disable the compatibility check.

1. Go to the firmware update page.
2. The checkbox in the image below is normally hidden. Alt-Shift-Click it and it'll become visible.
