USB Host Port a benefit with td17 brain?

Hi, does the USB Host Port in the edrumin 8 help with the midi transmission in some way?(I.e. timing etc with my td17 module)? I get that it may be a convenience with cabling to my computer, but I really am just interested in getting a snare with positional sensing for use with SD3. I am thinking that the edrumin 4 might suffice.
