Roland CY-13RC and CY-12C cymbals

Hello

Its been some time since I played my kit and I decided to do a teardown and rebuild.
I setup my pads and hi-hat -- no problem! I have SD3 on my Mac Laptop and signals are coming and playing. I have some fine-tuning I want to do, but that's to be expected.

However, I am having a heck of a time with my Roland cymbals (CY-12C and CY-13RC). Note, these are from the TD-17 set, so I have 2 of the 12" and one of the 13". I also tested ALL of my TRS cables with a multi-meter to make sure they are all good.

Also, I just upgraded to the 2.3 Beta and updated the Drumin module.

Here's the problem: all 3 of my cymbals on only send ONE MIDI value. When I look at the MIDI Monitor, V1 is only ever one value. V2 (which is the velocity, right?) changes as I expect. With the CY-13RC, it doesn't matter if I have it as a 2 zone(1 input) or 3 zone (2 input) configuration.

Am I doing something wrong? Is it possible all 3 cymbals have degraded to only one sensor working?

Thanks!!!!!
Nicki

Enclosed are the screenshots of the MIDI monitor for the cymbals.

For the 12C, I only ever get one MIDI note, regardless of where I hit.
On the 13RC, if I hit extremely hard near the bell, I can occasionally get a second note, but its very hard to do.

Thanks!

Sorry, I meant screenshots of your settings for those cymbals. I should have been clear.

I believe these are the Default settings. I may have changed the MIDI notes and run Calibrate.

Thanks!

You are using TRS cables? What happens when you pinch the edge of the CY-12? Does the choke note light up?

Yes, these are TRS cables. I tested them using a multimeter with a 2K Ohm setting.

When I pinch either of the cymbals, the Choke does NOT light up.

Thanks for troubleshooting!

Since you have a multimeter, can you plug one end of a cable into you CY-12 and connect your multimeter between the ring and sleeve on the other end. Assuming the the CY-12 is working probably, it should be normally Open Loop and then short when you pinch the edge of the cymbal.

I tried using the multimeter with 2K Ohms resistance. First, I tested the cable was good. Then I plugged on end into the cymbal and see if I could see anything on the multimeter. I tested both R&S as well as T&S. No signal.

I then spent some more time trying to configure the cymbal. Here's what I found:

- If I use the Roland CY12R/C preset and I turn off the Bell Sense, I get primarily "Bow" strikes. However, if I Calibrate and hit pretty hard close to the Bell, I can get an Edge Signal.
- Basically, Bow and Edge are reversed and Edge is hard to get.
- Below is a screenshot of the settings I currently have.

One more thought: is there any reason to believe Roland cymbal jacks are non-standard?

Thanks again!

Let's just focus on the CY-12 for now. With the multimeter, from sleeve to tip should be no signal, so that's normal.

However, the ring to sleeve should conduct when you pinch the edge of the cymbal. If it's not, your cymbal is damaged and that explains why you can't trigger edge notes.

It has had a lot of use I assume?
